Sorry for stupid question:It is a common belief that point-to-point wiring is better than IC-based topology. Is it a universal truth or it depends on the manufacturer (I mean tube amps)? If this is true, can we say that the use of integrated circuits throughout may yield dry and clinical transistor-like ("hi-endish") sound and it would be wise to sell the amp based on IC's and upgrade it for another amp of the same class using point-to-point wiring?
Follow Ups:
In audio, as in life, people tend to over generalize. There is an exception that "tries the rule" for almost any statement you can make about audio equipment. I have heard some really great point to point wired tube amps and some fairly awful ones. The 47 Labs 4706 Gaincard is a very good sounding little amp that uses ICs. Context matters a great deal too.
Listen with open ears.
.
-and also the hardest to implement. But by no means should that be considered the deciding issue!!
The Atma-Sphere amps would be among my small group of really great point-to-point wired amps.
I understand that Blue Circle's NSCS is also P2P wiring, and have earned some rave reviews.
I have only heard a few Blue Circle pieces, the NSCS not among them, I would have to spend more time with the gear to really get a solid impression.
Thanks! That's what I am trying to do.
I hope anything is permitted!, my preamp is 95% p2p wiring, except for a little board not much bigger than the IC that sits on it :).
