My question is: can it be driven with a passive pre ?<Any passive can drive this monoblock, but will sacrifice bottom end energy and dynamics due to the very low input impedance -- 5K in this case!!

I did try this combination over decade ago, never success!! Sorry!
However, if you're talking about passive magneitc preamplifier, then it might be another stroy!

Hi!"Any passive can drive this monoblock, but will sacrifice bottom end energy and dynamics due to the very low input impedance -- 5K in this case!!"
Not necessarily. If the source has a cap on the output or a very poor outputstage this could be true but as a rule.. nope!
I have used a 2k amp with 1k shunt attenuator with very good results. No loss of bottom extension and dynamics at all.
its HF that suffers more in passive setups
Well not really.. not if dimensioned correctly.Done right it's the highs that really shines in a passive solution.
The reason you can experience rolled of highs is due to a pot or attenuator of to high impedance paired with IC's of high capacitance. Better to do it the right way ans avoid those problems.
