I would like to upgrade my amp and am leaning towards a used – financial reasons - McIntosh in the 200-watt per ch. Range. Any opinions out there about what I can expect the differences to be sound-wise between the vintage and not so vintage? Thanks in advance for any light you can shed.

I don't know if it makes any difference to you but the 7200 does not have autoformers. Haven't heard the 7200 but I loved my 2205. Good luck.
P.S: I use a vintage McIntosh C29 pre-amp and mostly listen to older blues and rock.
Can not speak for MC7200, I have a pair of MC2205's powering my bi-amped JBL studio monitors, I like the relatively warm sound of the 2205's and have no plans to upgrade the power amps. My preamp is a C29 it was recently upgraded by Terry DeWick and sound beautiful, that said I just ordered a C15 to replace the preamp. The C29 will still be used for the rear channels of a 4 channels SACD setup.
If I was buying a MC2205 today I will send it to Terry DeWick for a complete upgrade, once that is done the amp will be good to go.
Thanks for your help, I've heard plenty of praise for the MC 2205's and 2255's, but haven't heard much about how the MC 7200's and 7270's compare sound-wise. There seems to be a lot more competition to buy the used 2205's on ebay. Maybe that should tell me something.
