I want to audition two integrated tube amps at home. Can I leave both of them on so I don't have to wait for a warm up period when switching between my speakers? In the guitar amp world you'll blow your transformer unless it's on standby, but I haven't heard of anything like that in the audio world. Is it safe to do?

The technician that works on my tube gear cautioned me about leaving tube amps turned on without speakers attached. Apparently some amps can go into oscillation, possibly causing catastrophic failure. Some amps are set up to avoid this scenario. My Akai M8 reel to reel has two mono integrated tube amps built in. The amps are connected to built-in speakers, which disconnect when external speakers are plugged into the 1/4" jacks. With these it is totally safe to leave the amps on with no external speakers connected.
I would not do that, unless you have a stand-by mode.
There is no problem at all. It's about 30 years that I'm doing in this way and also with the solid state there will be no problem, especially if the preamp is on mute, but be careful to do not short the speakers cables. Some amps can become unstable if have no preamp connected instead.
BTW, are power amp or integrated amp? If are power amp, how can you switch the signal cables without turn them off? (and this is very dangerous!!!)
Good listening.
He is asking about INTEGRATED TUBE amps. Most of the tube amps do not like being used without load (speakers attached), and may be even damaged.
Usually they do not care much about being shorted.(I do not know of any power amp that will become unstable when not attached to preamp? Which ones you are talking about?)
