I'm wondering if anyone has any experience running Vandersteen 3 series speakers with 60 watts of tube power. I have a Jolida 502 60 watt tube integrated (which has 4 and 8 ohm taps) running a pair of Vandersteen 2ce sigs, with no problem at all, usually adequate at 9:00 on the volume pot. It is never past 10:00. I'm thinking of moving up to the 3A sigs, and am wondering whether my amp will be adequate to the job.
I listen just to solo and chamber classical music and small group jazz, in a room 14'X19'X9'. Obviously I rarely listen beyond moderate levels. Thanks for all inputs, I could really use some help here.
Follow Ups:
I have a customer that just purchased a pair of 60 watt 6C33 mono blocs to run with his 3A Sigs and absolutely loves the combination.
These speakers are very tube friendly. He auditioned a few different amplfiiers when he brought his speakers in and one of his favorite was a Bella EXtreme 3205 with KT88 tubes which is based on the Jolida 502 chassis.
I think you would be fine with 50+ watts of tube power.
The 3A sigs are a little more efficient than the 2C's. Considering that you avoid head banging levels, go ahead and move up and let us know what you think of the upgrade.
With your preferences you could even use a powerful SET. Try an all range single driver speaker for a realistic pure sound if you really want a stunning reproduction of chamber music. It is a completely different appraoch and may sem thin but give it a carefull audition. The tonal acuuracy is better, I like 845 Tube amps.
IMHO the Vandersteens as a general rule are thick sounding and slow. If that's your "cup of tea" absolutely go ahead, your amp is more than adequate. Now if you get carried away with a little to much Vouvray or Volnay and try 11 on the dial you might hear some distortion.
