where folks from the various magazines might respond.I think it's an important question that needs to be answered.....one way or another.
How do you know it hasn't?

Where do I find the answer? I've NEVER seen the issue of pro vs audiophile amps addressed in a performance/comparison test. All I've ever seen are the opinions of others on both sides of the issue. Opinions are worthless.
There is a gentleman named Bob Lee with QSC who posts over on the pro forum. Ask him if they have ever submitted one of their amps to SP, TAS, etc.If not, pose the same question to him you advanced in your initial post.
Why not answer the question for yourself? You are the only one that matters when it comes to something entirely subjective such as this.
> > Why not answer the question for yourself? < <I have but not very scientifically. I have not had the opportunity to do an A-B comparison.
In another person's system, outside my home, I've listened to a Behringer expecting to hear harshness, grain, noise, an uncivilized roughness.
In fact, it sounded no different than any other amp I've listened to. But that is not really a valid test because without an A-B comparison, all good solid state amps sound about the same. Without living with the amp a good long time I couldn't pick up on all the nuances.
And what were the other amps you were comparing it to?
I had no other amps for comparison. I thought I made that clear.
Well then what other amps have you used at length as some kind of reference?
I can't remember all the amps I'ver heard in my lifetime. There's been scores of low and high end amps. There is a difference between high and low end but the differences are subtle enough where I usually need to A-B the different amps or live with an amp in my home for a while.
My point was this. There's no immediate obvious differences between the Behringer I hear periodicly and most of the audiophile amps I've heard.
There most likely ARE differences between pro amps and audiophile amps. But those differences are not immediately apparent to me.

Believe what your ears say - not hearsay.
that the Behringers are far from the best pro amps. But they only cost a few hundred bucks.
The high end pro amps can hold their own against home amps priced the same or even higher. This is because most pro amps are built in much higher volumes.
The mid-priced Samsons are a bargain and the QSC models are as good as anything else for the $.
