I could sell you my Sony SACD 333ES to go with that new Creek passive if you want...
LOL
Enjoy your new sound!
A couple of years ago a friend built three passive boxes with different value volume pots, something like 25K, 50K, and 100k, just so he could compare them in his system. Each one contained a combination of RS and Mouser parts costing about $15. After finding which worked best in his system, he gave me his 50K box. Many years ago I had a Mod Squad passive unit I put in place of my c-j full function preamp. It didn't match well as I lost dynamics and had other problems. Therefore, I didn't expect much out of my friend's passive box. Well, it blew me away with the increased openness and transparency. My whole system changed through the years so nothing was the same as before but I was greatly surprised with this result. A few friends have since borrowed this passive box with similar results. So, two conclusions:
1. It seems that every preamp manufacturer should use a passive unit (assuming no impedance/interface problems) to test the transparency of their designs before putting them into production.
2. DUI, I'm also surprised you initially found an improvement by inserting the Creek while your Mac was still in the system (i.e. duplicating the volume pot) if I understand your follow up correctly. BTW, how long are your interconnects to your MC 275?
from the McIntosh C22000 into the inputs for the Creek. Duh!! What tipped me off something was wrong ws the McIntosh volume control worked!!!??? The McTinosh remote also caused the light to flicker on the Creek.
My RCA interconnects are about ten-12 feet heavy duty cable I had cutom made. I also have 15 foot balanced also custom made.
Does that mean the Creek got a second chance?
Hey, I just got a MC275 for my Quad 2805's. What speaker output do you use with your Quads, the 8 Ohm or 16 Ohm? I figured the 8 Ohm, but wanted to check with others. Thanks,
sorry as to not remembering who
OK, thanks for getting back with me. Once things get settled in a bit, I'll experiment with both 8 and 4 ohm.Lots to try...rolling input tubes, isolation, etc.
nt
I ned to et out the SACDs and DVDAs.
I had the Mc preamp going into the Creek; OOPS!! Without the boost in gain from the Mc preamp there ain't enough juice to power the speakers above 70 db.
