A tube can get noisy any time, but if it happened in both channels ate the same time it may not be a tubes. The usually go down one at a time. With my stuff (everything is tubed) a noisy tube is my first assumption when I hear your description. Usually its in the pre-amp but some times it can be the small tubes in the amp, and on a rare occasion it was the power tubes. If you have a spare tube or two try them and see if the noise changes.
Follow Ups:
Even if the noise goes away after 5 minutes after startup ? Wouldn't a noisy tube be constant ?
Then remained quiet for the remainder of the session. I've had it happen often, its not really a problem. Some times it has gone away when I removed and reinserted the tube. Give it a try.
ok , thanks I'll try that
