Andy, I was referring to the conventional TKD pot at about $60.00 US which was a little over his budget.
I used one to upgrade the volume pot in a Cary AE-3. Works great but no doubt the stepped attenuator is the way to go if you have the cash.
Bill.
Follow Ups:
For the money, you will not be able to beat the TKD volume pot, period. I've tried all the currently, and some not currently, available pots that sell for less than $100. You will not likely find anything better for less than double the price, if even that.If you have to pick a second place, I would go with Noble.
Good luck,
Better than PEC...?
I second the 50K TKD from parts connexion, my second choice would also be noble and my third would be a plain old Alps blue. I had an old hafler preamp that had the original pot replaced with a plastic TKD, excellent sounding.Nothing wrong with an Alps blue I've seen them as original pots in hafler DH110, Parasound Php-850,Primaluna, Cayin integrateds, jolida, ASL, Eastern Electric Minimax and too many others to list these are just some of the pieces I've owned. Eastern Electric chose the TKD as an upgrade to the Minimax and added a fourth input.I might drop a TKD in my minimax if the Alps ever fails.
