It takes me a month to assess extensively the character of a new amp.
Follow Ups:
I've lived with a 3BSST for eight months(aprox)
The 4BSST is like an old friend,
I recognized its character almost immediately!
I want to clarify that I do not have a problem with your opinion of the amp. I have a BIG problem with the short process of your review and the lack of info on comparisons you've made with other amps. A one day review only benefits yourself in the self-gratification of new toy syndrome. It doesn't help the readers of this site and it doesn't help Bryston. Live with it a month, then write your review. We'll still be here.
Yeh, I am kind of stoked about the amp.
But honestly it sounds just like the 3BSST...on steroids.
the on/off switch works.
..you can fool some of the people some of the time but
you can fool 38% of the people all of the time.
Thought so.
..of course its a joke. But only people who've heard Brystons SST amps can get the joke.
After you go out and audition one, you'll get it too!
So go right now to your nearest audio-store, I'll wait...and when you get back, we can all have one big laugh.
you still there?
aw man...know what? just realized, Bryston doesnt have a distribution deal with Walmart yet.
tough break huh?
I've owned a Bryston 4BSST for two years and I'm about to put it up for sale. I've replaced it with a pair of EVS 500M amps ($2,050/pr). Neither amp is perfect, but the EVS amps are more detailed, punchier, more dynamic, and have twice the power into a 4 ohm load.
wow! class D amplification! thats the new hotness, isnt it?
heres what some folk think about switching amps:http://www.bryston.ca/newsletters/91_files/vol9_iss1.pdf

Dude save your money, the Sonic Impact T-amp(tripath chipset) has been available at Target for some time now.
