Depending on the vintage of your Monitor 7's, they could be highly sought after. Nontheless, all of them are competent performers.Describe what you tweeters look like. The first and last ones were the best, and they currently have a decent replacement available for the others.
You want a reference grade integrate that will allow you to get the best from your speakers and sources at a price you can afford? Look no further than an Accuphase E-202.
I have been happily using one for many years. It readily rivals most amplifiers (regardless of cost), and they regularly sell for between $300 to $500 US.
Look for one in good shape that hasn't been modified (very important) and has no issues.
Follow Ups:
I've seen the Accuphase E-202 on Audiogon and Ebay from time to time. Don't know much about them but I have seen nothing but high praise for them on here. What about the newer models? These Monitor 7's are from around 1975. I don't believe they are the first version. These have the flush mounted rectangular tweeter and the 10" passive radiator. I thought some 7's had a raised tweeter and a 8" PR, but I could be wrong.
Most newer Accuphase models sell for more than you want to spend ($2K+). The E-301 was designed as a replacement of the E-202 after they had ceased its production. You may be able to find either it or the E-302 for under $1K. But read on...The E-303, which can be purchased for less than $1K, replaced the E-202 as their flagship. It inturn evolved into the E-405. These are Accuphases best vintage offerings.
Nontheless, the E-202 was an all out design that readily holds its own against its bigger brothers! you cannot beat it for the money.
The original Monitor 7 had a black soft-dome tweeter with a small hole in the center.
They made them with both an 8 and a 10inch radiator thoughout the production run.
Most of the E-202's I've found so far are modded. Some are simply refurbished and others are new old stock. I did see one unmodified original one in my price range on Ebay of all places. I guess I worry about reliability with an amp that old. Then again, my speakers are about the same age.On my Monitor 7's, they have an all black flush mounted soft dome tweeter with a small hole in the center. I know my Dad bought them around '75, or possibly earlier, at a local stereo shop in Alaska. I do know that these are some of the very first models Polk Audio ever produced. Thanks for you help.
