Other than powering up the amp last?If I have my amps on, and turn off my preamp, it produces a startling and unappetizing sound. I know the rule is amps on last/off first, but isn't there some way to plug them all into some power strip or something that can avoid this?
Follow Ups:
Rotel makes a glorified power strip with surge protection called the RLC-900. It has a timed sequence for power amps "on-last/off-first" that works very well. You can pick one up for about $100 used on Audiogon.
One button does it all. Turns the amp on last and off first.
It was designed to do just this, turning on the amp(s) 10 seconds after everything else. Not sure what to do about turn off, though.John K.

If your woofers push out when you hear the thump, then slowly recess back in...you are sending DC current to your speakers. if that's the case, drop your amp off to a local tech...you don't want to hurt your speakers.i've owned several SS amps and there is a whump, but its not loud and doesn't seem to come out of the speakers. your active preamp might be making the whump louder too.
You could use a programmable remote control that would allow you to program macros with delays where needed. Then with the push of a button everything could be shut down (or powered up) in the correct order.
Turn amps on last when starting up and turn off first when shutting down might do it for you
if your gear was not designed not to wump!
If your a DIY'er you could add a power on/off mute delay circuit utilizing a relay fairly easily if space permits...
