I picked up a new Monster Cable Power station HTS-5100 for 40% off. They were getting rid of the line, so I got it on a deal. These units are basically power line filters with surge protection. I still have time to take it back if needed, but do they units work well in improving the sonics of the units plugged into them? Or is the unit basically just a scam that doesn't do much of anything? Do they do what is advertised?
Follow Ups:
I have read many comments how Monster Cable line conditioners limit current which effects the sound of the units plugged into it. I have the HTS 5100 (not sure if its a Mark 2 or not). I have time to return it, so I'd rather be sure about keeping it. Another dealer sells Richard Gray's Power Company conditioners. They claim they don't limit current as compared to other line conditioners such as the Monster Cable ones. Yet I have read negative comments on even Richard Gray's units saying they also effect the sound quality for worse. If that is the case I might keep the 5100 unit I bought. Any comments?
I didn't feel comfortable with the Monster Cable unit, so I returned it. Others have commented these units are not even needed with high end equipment and will just degrade the sound of them.
Sure it will work. I even plug my subwoofer amp into it. I have mine on my HT set up. How much benefit you will get depends on your AC power condition in your location.
Ok I've read some bashing so far. So some say to not plug the amp into this unit. Preamp and other low power units are ok. This might work for me since I will be running two preamps anyways which will take up the available plugs on the line conditioner. In this setup its safe to say the unit will work then?
