Hi all,I currently own the Rogue Tempest II integrated amp. The Tempest II can be transformed to the ST90 by moving a jumper (the Tempest II has a passive pre stage).
I would like add an active tube pre. My budget is around 3-4K and s/h is definitely an option, BUT, due to the fact that I don't live in the states my options are limited :(...

Any "success stories" with voicing a Rogue power amp with a non-Rogue preamp ?
I recently purchased the Stereo 90, and for those reasons just express went also with the new Perseus preamp. I am really happy with the combination. At this point I am running the Stereo 90 with Winged "C" EL34's. I've tried the EH KT88's that Mark O'Brien at Rogue seems to prefer, the Svetlana EL34's, and the New Sensor "Mullard re-issue" EL34's. I suspect I'm sticking with the Winged "C" for some time to come. Also with the Stereo 90 I am running NOS GE 12AX7's as input tubes.
For the Perseus, I am running NOS RCA 12AU7 clear tops.
After I talk with Mark again for his input/experience, I anticipate rolling the 12AX7's and 12AU7's, trying out a couple of the NOS tubes discussed in threads here.
you can call mark o'brien from rogue audio @ 570-992-9901
IMHO, it's always a good bet to use a preamp from the company who did the amp. Voicing is compatible. The Rogue 99 is supposed to be pretty good. Contact the Rogue designer (forgot his name), he's supposed to be a great guy and could probably get you a preamp sent to whereever you are.
