A friend of mine picked up a pair of ESS Super Quads the other day (yes, I'm jealous) and I've been trying to find some information on them for him. Have any of you heard of these speakers? They have RTR/Janzen tweeters, a Quad ESL-57 acting as a midrange panel, and once had a pair of transmission line bass enclosures (that the previous owner disassembled). An external ESS crossover came with the set.I did find The Audio Circuit's brief page on these, but more information would most certainly be appreciated. Pictures and the like can be found at the below link.
Thanks.

Hmm, I would've thought someone would've heard of these as they appear to be a rather successful attempt to improve upon the original Quad ESL-57 without detracting from it's strengths.Anyways, it appears that one of the Quads is having treble panel issues. I realize that someone asked this two years ago unsuccessfully, but does anyone know of any decent techs in the Pacific NW (preferably in or near Portland) who one can trust to check out and repair old Quads? Any electrostatic speaker techs at all who could?
...try them on their own. You might find that the "Super" prefix is a mild exaggeration :) to say the least.
The best I can do is offer you a free checkout in San Francisco.Sandro Boccara
Thanks for the offer, I'll pass it along to my friend. However, San Fran is a fair bit away and I do not know if I'll be able to talk him into shipping them out for servicing. I already gave him the link to your Quad diagnosis page, so we'll see what happens. I might end up trying to fix these for him since I have some electronics background.
Right. Email if I can be of assistance.
