I don't see any clamps being shown on the individual turntables on the Acoustic Signature site either, but I am sure they are not implying that a clamp is not recommended. After all, they sell 4 different clamps. I use a clamp because, IMO, it sounds better.
I have been using the Origin Live mat for years on various tables, from the 7-pound synthetic platter on the Clearaudio Ovation, to the 20-pound aluminum platter on the VPI Aries 3, all with good results. As I mentioned in the Montana Neo review (link below), the mat that was included with the AS table performs similarly to the OL mat. I use a mat because, IMO, it sounds better.
As a hobbyist, I consider almost every claim about the benefit of a product to be just marketing until that claim is validated by listening.
