Older Sansui and Denon

Back in the '70s a local hi-end dealer had disparaging names for most of the mid-fi companies. So he called them Sansewage!

However I bought a new AU-717 when I had to downgrade my system after a job change. That worked amazingly well driving early Maggies. Years later I picked up a TU-9900 which was a top rated tuner. They did offer some good components.

Regarding Denon, maybe in the late '80s/early '90s they offered a compact 3-piece system which I thought was very good. Speakers were a bit smaller than the RS Minimus 7s and the one-piece electronics box was the same size. That included amp, FM, and single disc CD player. It was a great starter, dorm, bedroom system.
