RE: Shuguang Treasure KT88-Z vs PSVane KT88T with Cary

Posted by akolegov on January 2, 2017 at 00:44:30:

Michael,

I have plenty of pre-amp and driver tubes. The 6922-type tubes I currently use are Amperex green label 7308, the driver tubes are Raytheon JAN-CPR/6SN7 GT (the box marked "Western Elect. Co, Inc.) and the rectifiers are Sylvania 5U4G.

The coupling caps are Jensens .22uf CIO caps; I also tried V-Caps (for a year) but eventually found the sound to be too "mechanical".

I know they are not considered to be the best driver tubes in this family, but GE 6SN7 GTAs sound excellent with the Cary.

Perhaps, I have too many amps; otherwise, I would experiment more with the Cary SLI-80.

Are GZ34s the same as 5AR4s? They are now very expensive!
