You say "good vinyl setup" - but what is it? It needs to be defined.

it is easier to talk in terms of "best possible". Including the system AND the source material. A very high quality vinyl setup is a very, very serious contender. It can be beaten by a very high quality high speed 2-track tape deck using a copy of the master tape as its source. Generally speaking... :)

But all this is academic. Both formats can and should be enjoyed for what they have to offer. If your A77 is properly set up, it will give you tremendous pleasure.
