RE: Dynaudio tweeters

Posted by danlaudionut on May 27, 2012 at 22:42:05:

Here is my whole DIY system for your enjoyment.
Top to Bottom -
Dual 504 TT,
Cambridge Audio DiscMagic Transport,
Octal Cornet Phono with heavily modified PS,
Monica DAC/Tube Preamp
SE 6P5 - 6L6/KT66 Amp

I tried the 5.25" Audax Aerogel first...
It went deep enough to mate with the HiVi D10G
but wasn't it fast enough or didn't have enoigh HF
to blend with the Dynaudio D260.
I tried the 4" Audax Aerogel next ...
I was the complete opposite -
It mated well with the Dynaudio but
not low enough for the HiVi.
So I tried them in parallel but didn't expect much.
But WOW they really had the best of both.
With the rising impedance on the 4" low end,
it transferred slowly to the 5.25" seamlessly.
With the rising impedance on the 5.25" high end,
it transferred slowly and seamlessly to the 4".
I was sold on the combo from the first listen.
The midrange quickness reminds me of
my brother's Magnepan 2.7s but sweeter.
I run them with my DIY SE 6L6/KT66 amp.
It has about 5 watts output.
It is only covering above 200Hz
so the 5 watts is plenty.
I have a cap to the tweeters but
run the mids full range - no xover.
I love it this way but it's tough to find
speakers that can run this way.
Rythmik mosfet plate amps on the HiVi D10Gs.
