. . . makes me think that he must have persuaded himself that he's hearing stair-steps in the sound waves, per the misleading explanatory graphics we used to see in the magazines when digital first came out. (See link below.) The effect of psychology on our listening (mine too!) is a powerful factor and is very much underappreciated in our whole listening experience!
