Road trip (last leg) -- central CA, Mojave Desert and Route 66, AZ

Posted by free.ranger on May 2, 2021 at 15:01:50:

These kinds of trips are akin to mountain climbing. Sure, I wanted to, and could go farther, but it gets farther back at the same time, and it gets wearisome. From the turnaround point of Point Reyes National Seashore in CA, I pretty much just drove.

South on Interstate 5 through the California Central Valley (yawn), through Bakersfield (swell), across the Mojave into Arizona on Interstate 40, then along old Route 66 toward Flagstaff (mostly to just get off of the damn freeway). The east-west interstates are truck festivals these days. It is not relaxing driving. So, ... glad to be back in the barn.

Final pic set. From the top:
edited add - I-5 near Bakersfield CA. I think everybody should see this so you can go elsewhere.
1,2- The California Aqueduct along I-5 somewhere/nowhere west of Merced (maybe).
3,4- Mojave Desert off of Needle Mountain Rd, east of the Colorado River. Still life and mesquite.
5,6- Route 66 real estate, the CeCi Rider Ranch. See what they have done?
7,8,9- A little too close. These tracks are a major route into Los Angeles. Trains roll along here fast and frequently.
10- The Grand Wash Cliffs, looking into Grand Canyon National Park.
11- The Roadkill Cafe in Seligman AZ.
