Seeing Jimmy Heath play and having my friend Keith Copeland introduce me to Jimmy made me wonder how that big sound came from such a small guy. Very humble and friendly man, very knowledgeable musician. Wow, what a career!
I met Claudio in Boston my last year at Berklee in 1970. There were several Brazilians at Berklee in those days, all very good players. Claudio was a standout. He was also a standout as a person. Loose, warm, funny guy. He played a number of times in my first NYC big band and always sounded great.
