My "New" Beauhorn Virtuoso Speakers!

Well after rising medical bills last May forced the sale of my Sachiko speakers, my Goldnote Stibbert CDP, my Audio-gd Reference 7.1 DAC, along with most of my tubes. I've been living in a sonic purgatory for the past 6 months. However someone I've met in the audio forums ---if he visits here and wishes to come forward perhaps he will--- took mercy on me and made these available for me for a price I could afford after borrowing some $$$$ from a friend. So now I've been living with my "new" Beauhorn Virtuoso speakers for about a week or so now and these are absolutely incredible speakers! At first they sounded very nice, but something seemed off sonically. I figured that I just needed to play around with the ICs, speaker-wires & perhaps do some tube-rolling. So to that end I replaced the Mazda "chrome-plate" 6189 tubes with Psvane 12AU7-TII tubes in the preamp section of my amp. Then I replaced the Tung-Sol "flat-plate" 5687 tubes with Bendix 6900 tubes and both these changes made for a more balanced frequency reproduction from the deepest lows to the highest, highs.

Next I moved on to wires and started by replacing my Atelier Rullit "Late Gothic" ICs with a diy pair of silver/gold alloy ICs. Adding these silver/gold alloy ICs made everything more transparent, the music now had much greater clarity, the inner-detail was more noticeable and both frequency extremes became more extended. In fact, I've never heard a better pair ICs. And I've had MULTI-thousand dollar ---well over $7K--- ICs in this system in the past! I highly, highly suggest anyone who can make a pair of ICs purchase some of this silver/gold alloy wire from Parts Express at the link down below and make at least 1 pair of ICs for yourself. Then try them in various position in your system and prepare to be amazed. I know there's one fellow who's making ICs from this wire on the internet and selling them for either $900 or $1000 for a 1 meter pair! Yes these wires are really that good!

Yet something still wasn't quite right. So today a friend came over today to help me with exchanging speaker-wires in my system. Unfortunately I'm disabled with a very bad back ---along with other health issues--- so I need help moving the speakers and pulling the 135 LB amp away from the wall etc. My friend Steve brought a pair Van Den Hul and Mapleshade speaker wires with him for me to try in my system in place of my Belden 9497 speaker wires, which are the same type that Shindo supposedly used. So we pulled out the Mastersound amp, which is on a rack with wheels, and as I was preparing to remove the Belden 9497 speaker wires, I noticed they were connected to the 4 ohm taps on the amp! I couldn't believe what I was looking at. I knew the Beauhorn Virtuosos were 8 ohm speakers. I immediately reconnected the Belden 9497 speaker wires to the 8 ohm taps on back of the amp! Then I went around to the front of the amp, turned the power on and went to sit in the best listening spot on the couch. Just as I sat down in the "chosen listening spot" I heard a slight "click" which informed me the amp had just finished completing it's self-check! As I looked to the amp I saw the front power light had turned green. Everything was now a go. I felt like I was at NASA waiting for the countdown 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3. 2, 1, and I hit play on the remote of the YBA Genesis CD-4 CDP. I sat back, closed my eyes and listened as Daria began to sing Fool On The Hill by The Beatles.

I was literally stunned at the improvement I heard. I've never heard this level of sonic improvement made simply by switching the output taps from 4 ohm to 8 ohm or even 16 ohm. I was both stunned & amazed at this! Yes switching the preamp & driver tubes made a quite significant sonic improvement, just as switching to the silver/gold alloy ICs did. But this level of improvement was definitely the most unexpected and yet at the very same time, the most significant. First it immediately removed a slight, but extremely irritating, smearing I'd hear in the highs every time I raised the volume over a certain level. It also presented a much more balanced rendition of all the frequencies from low to high. Literally everything from pitch, tonality, harmonics, inner-detail, decay etc. just sounded so much more right. Daria went from being on a recording to sounding like she was standing 5 feet in front of me singing her heart out to me. These are without a doubt the best speakers I've ever owned. I'll most likely have them until the day I die. Yes the Beauhorn Virtuoso speakers have been added along side of my Mastersound Reference 845, integrated amp as audio components I could never imagine selling. They're truly a match made in heaven. Yes they're that good!
