RE: Electrovoice SP15 in open baffle

Posted by stereohifi on May 8, 2012 at 06:19:23:

It is a EV SP12B with a Peerless textile dome tweeter crossover at 2,5Khz.
Simple plywood 3/4'' thick and cut at 24'' x 48'' with a base holding the OB's plywood panels slightly at an angle 5 to 7 degres that's all.

EV SP12B is low-pass filter at 6dB/oct. around 2KHz.
Peerless tweeter high pass at 6dB/oct. 3KHz, i did spread the responses as both units comes close in gain near 2,5KHz.

Sounded great because i had 2 pairs of EV SP12B's, the buyer came for raw drivers only, but he heard this , he took them.

The EV SP15 project is more complex and difficult to voice, but once properly dialed, it sounds better than the EV SP12B's OB project, better bass, and more midrange defition and precision of tones.

Here's a pic of theEV SP12B's OB back quite simple week-end project.
Enjoy!
