Qobuz Reduces Prices Outside of USA

Posted by PAR on February 21, 2020 at 02:45:34:

Qobuz has already dropped prices in the USA leaving many European subscribers miffed.

I am writing from a UK subscriber viewpoint but assume that what they are doing here applies similarly to France, Ireland, Germany. Netherlands etc. albeit in euro.

They are now offering only two plans. MP3 has been dropped ( as in the USA) and also the CD level plan. All is now hi-res; Studio Premier or Sublime+ being the two options remaining. Studio Premier is 14.99 monthly and Sublime+ reduced to 249.99 gbp per annum. Those subscriptions include VAT @ 20% if you want to compare with other plans.

EDIT: Since writing the above I have heard from a Qobuz subscriber in Ireland that , at this time, the prices and plans for his country have not changed. I suspect that they will eventually but Qobuz may be phasing changes across the various countries over time to avoid creating a huge amount of administration in one hit.

The usual offer to renew your plan now and have what remains of your existing subscription credited is available. However please ensure that you have received an email from Qobuz with the link to do this. Do not cancel your existing subscription and open a new one at the new price as you will not receive any credit against your old plan.

I guess that Qobuz' experiment at the end of last year in the USA with dropped prices (now permanent) must have shown that lowering subscriptions increases the number of members outweighing the top line loss of revenue.
