I'm sure there were some aspects of his system that he really enjoyed that you didn't appreciate because the sound was too different from what you're used to. The guy you bought the TT from would probably think the same of your system, at least at first.

I've had experiences like that in other people's homes, and shows, and dealers.

I think part of being an audiophile is a tendency to focus on little things about our system. We overlook the big flaws because we get used to them, until another audiophile or dealer points them out. We all have different priorities too.
