Period instruments, yes, and screechy no. The concerted instruments are obviously not weighty but the sound is very good and smoothly performed. The violins are very warm sounding and just plain gorgeous. The artistry is so excited and alive, it just puts all the other Bach instrumental recordings I have to shame. The technique is breathless at times, and maybe someone would complain about that but I am in awe of the talent. Great fun for $10 (2 CDs). It'll be a while before I get back to listening to Mahler . . .
