For VW "Job" fans, a sleeper IMHO: Wordsworth and the Philharmonia

This performance was originally released on Collins Classics then it disappeared. It recently resurfaced on Alto. I've not heard a performance that has surpassed Wordsworth's, for my tastes; not any of the Boult's (too soft-edged), Handley (too driven, misses VW's cool sensuality in places), and so on. I haven't heard Elder's new version.

The recording is fantastic and IMHO hits all the marks: overwhelming power in the Satan stuff, and supremely gorgeous string playing during the "earthly" stretches, including the a beautiful solo during Eliahu's dance (sp).
