for the MMF5

As with any attempt to make a review my talents are limited.
Here it goes, I received this TT and I was extremely excited about it. At the beginning I was not impressed. I found the quality control of my TT was lacking. To give the mmf-5 the benefit of the doubt I guess it could have been the shipping that screwed all the adjustments. After folks on this site steered me in the direction of usable owners manual(the one that comes with it just plain sucks)I ended up using 3 manuals to get this thing dialed in.
Ok enough bitching.
There is a lot of good things about this deck. After figuring out where all the adjustments are located I was able to get this thing producing some excellent music. This table must be absolutely level, spend the extra time to make sure it is level. It does have a bubble level built into it that works fairly well although I used it combination with a small level laid across the platter at opposite right angles to achieve perfection. The VTA is adjustable as is the Azimut which is great if you want to dial it in. Be forewarned that you need some basic TT tools to get all this right.
The Goldring cart that came with it(1012gx) sounds pretty good although I still haven't tried my Grado Gold on it yet.
All in all I am very happy withe MMF5. I know there are better TT's out there but it is a definate improvement over the Technics sl-1900 it replaced. My next upgrade will have to be my phono pre-amp. I am looking at at the Monolthis PS-1. I will keep you posted.
