for the Stratus Bronze i
I've enjoyed the Bronzes for more than a year now. That's no surprise as I'm a big PSB fan -- Paul Barton's voicing suits my ears just right -- and have had a slew of PSBs, starting small and ending (so far) with the Bronze.Slightly dark sound, perfect for majority of CDs, but open and detailed enough to not sound shut in or muddy. Lots of bass. Good imaging. I didn't have much trouble with set-up in my 12x24 living room and get a nice, wide soundstage.
Like all PSBs, it's a versatile speaker. I've run them with a Pioneer SX 727, Scott 299c, Arcam Alpha 9 and Sherwood S-5000. Both of the low-powered tube units had little trouble driving them, although the high-powered solid states could push harder.
As for value, they're hard to beat even at retail. But some careful looking will net you a deal on used or demo. I got mine for $500 from Ambrosia Audio in L.A. and have seen a couple of pair go for around $500-$700 on eBay.
Product Weakness: Some may find them too dark. Product Strengths: Excellent all-around sound, great value, versatile.
