My dealer carried the Golds the first year the line was offered for sale.
With a Klyne/Levinson setup, they sounded wonderful. That was about 8 years ago. Since then i have heard them in dealerships being run by Yamaha receivers and AR tube monomonsters. Several months ago i got mine.
The speaker is intended for rooms of (very) roughly 20-30'. The only time they fail to pass a note is on a 15hz fundamental. The bass typically
surpises HT guys; who think you need a sub to have ELF. It is not as well defined as i would like; but speakers that have well defined bass are extraordinarly rare. Aside from my old Allison One's, i have heard good bass on a couple of speakers costing thousands more; bass is my 'thing'.
My room needs acoustic treatment in the bass; so my asessment may change. They measure +4db in the bass region, this allows for absorbtion by walls and furniture; but can also excite resonances and nulls (both of which are happening in my den).
In my HT rig they can be very dynamic. A lot of speakers sacrifice dynamics for detail. Most high end speakers fall into that category; these do so to a smaller degree. They also have a soft high end, neccesary for my room. If you ever want to know the meaning of the word treble; put your ear 1" away from a cymbal, and have a friend whack it with a ball peen hammer. Real life treble has an intensity and power that is incredible.
Never understood the hi end obsession with 'pastel' treble.
The Golds like power. My amp can provide 200 watts in stereo easily; i t is not enough. There is an obvious absence of strain when there is enough
power; 300 watts should provide that. They have a huge listening area. This has allowed me to set furniture in a typical fashion; allowing several people enjoy theater or music.
I had not intended to go over $2k for speakers. But the Golds have always seemed like a good choice to me. Even when my priorites shifted towards theater; their flexibility precluded anything else.
