I have owned the 3.3 for just 1 day now but I have heard the speakers on several occasions driven by various amplifiers. I would like to add that properly placed the 3.3 need NO help from a subwoofer. Let me remind everyone that Stereophile stated the 3.3's were the most full range speakers they've tested to date (few years ago).I must agree with the first review that the 3.3 need a real amplifier and may not benefit from mid-fi amplifiers in general because of their bias towards brightness as a means of perceived detail.
The 3.3's need a serious amplifier like the Bel Canto Evo, Classe, Krell, Levinson, etc. The speakers are $4600 why mate them with a 1G amplifier?
At any rate the speaker absolutly rocks, it plys loud and IS smooth when your system and accessories are choosen with care. Cables, Power Cords, dampening ideas and other tweaks in your system can make these speakers compete with any speaker favorably.
Note: The speakers are inefficient so mating them with a powerhouse amplifier is essentail, or even better bi-amping them.
