for the Primus 150

I bought a couple of infinity Primus 150 speakers some time ago . I heard them at the store and after having heard them I thought to myself that the offered sound was reasonably good considering the cost .
For a 200 dollar a pair speakers you can't ask for a super built but they were well put together with a front plastic baffle as a one piece effort which is being used by a number of manufacturers nowadays .
I been into music and audio as a hobby for about 30 years more or less and have had countless systems as I am to an equipment freak . From tubes to solid state . From speakers from the brits to USA and Japan I've heard quite a number of them . My present equipment comprises a Audible Illusions Modulus 3A preamp with a Mccormack DNA 125 amp ( lately I have been using a used Counterpoint sa-12 modified to NP-100 status which has surprise me so as to believe it's one great buy ) , a consonace forbbiden city CD player as source and a project turntable with an ortofon MC cartridge . All cables in the system are JPS superconductor and all power to the equipment is carried by superconductor power cable all connected to a Vans Evers power conditioner .
Everything is placed an a Lovan equipment stand . Speakers are Magnepan 1.6 QR and Spicas Tc-50's with modified crossover where all capacitors have been upgraded . For bass I use a HSU top of the line subwoofer with it's own amp .
Now to the speakers . How do they sound . Pretty good thank you . Remember , my observations are in relation to their price as you can do much better with more money if your careful buying .
For they don't have bass . Their bass response is about in the 65 HZ and from their they roll of rather rapidly . Midbass is fast and with no boom which makes the midrange sound rather a bit thin when in reality they are very flat . The Imaging is very good center images do wonder a bit but better then many speakers costing more . Lateral spread is great for such a small investment . Tonally midrange is very natural with a thin tone because of the lack of bass which makes the speaker all the better to match to a good subwoofer . The top ends is ok but a bit forward with some grain but what you have in reality depends on the top end of your equipment which is as it should be . Drivers are made of ceramic which is a very good material for very fast response time and you can here it as transients are very fast . I bought these to use as rear speakers for my home theater set up but in a budget minded system they should do rather nicely as main speakers . But be careful in selecting your electronics as they are rather thin sounding and the top end can be a bit aggresive . Nad electronics should be a great match or tubes . The worst part and that which I consider their worst caracteristics that detracts form musical enjoyment is the dynamic limitations . They can sound loud but not by that much and when they do reach their top dynamic ceiling you can hear it as a nasty breakup together with cabinet induced vibrations . These are not speakers for rock , but they would do rather nicely with jazz , popular music , but for Led Zeppelin or Motley Crue look else where . All in all a nice package at a nicer price . One more thing , they are discriminating enough so to give you the differences between electronics and they will recompense you with very good music making with the right equipment .

Product Weakness: dynamically limited , forwardness and brightness at the top end with the wrong electronics ,
Product Strengths: Soundstaging , tonality , price , musically engaing in a neutral manner , not eufonics .
