Got a pair of X-1 from Canada. The X-1s are almost full range satellite standmounted speakers that can work independently from the SW-1. I was very impressed with the reviews from Soundstage magazine...Soundstage.com, and decided to take a plunge on a not heard product. The X-1 are very original in shape...Triangular, like the top half od a thin coffin...two color finishes from which you can choose, black and burgundy.
In constrast to other speakers I was considering, the x-1s are excellent. I had heard a pair of Australian monitors that cost 2.5k and a pair of Aerial Acoustics, the Model 3 or something that can also go up to the 2k range. None of them were able to deliver the sound and the impact I was looking for. The Model 3 was rather nice sounding, but with about 10k worth of gear driving it, it would better be. The Australian monitors were the Osborn Titans that used Focal Drivers. This unit was also decent, but it somewhat compressed when the musical passages became difficult....when I got the X-1s...I put them through its paces. I was using a second hand Nak P-7, Nelson Pass Stasis design. It sounded impressive outright...but as it got time to pass through the break in barrier, it got much better.

I believe that the sound of the Gershman is very detail, but not so to make it clinical. The speaker attains a little sweetness to vocals and an incredible imaging in classical pieces that I have not heard in the other models. All said and done, the Gershmans can sing with the best, being fast, going extremelly low on their own and simply being satisfyingly musical. Get them if you can. They can beat anything up to the 2.5K range and perhaps beyond hands down.

Within 6 months of getting the X-1s, I got the complementary subs, the SW-1, a pair of which act as stands to the X-1s. When I first installed them, I did not feel an incredible improvement....after all, I must have been waiting for an earthquake or something...but, as if had the time to become attuned with playing and time, I realized that it provided a foundation from which all musical attacks could occur and thus provide a veritable presence, which is a rarity in many sub included musical systems.
