for the TIME WINDOW

I have been listening to this speaker again after more than nine consecutive months enjoying the Dynaudio Auudience 42. I still have the DCM Time Windows and have actually been using these as poor man's sound reinforcement, placing them in the corners and high above the Audiece 42s. They have continued to be useful in that respect.

But curiosity got the better of me. I wired the DCMs back in. They are better than I thought, but not as smooth and detailed overall as the Dynaudio. There's a hump in the upper bass/lower midrange area that adds a thickness to both male and female voices. They just do not sound as natural as they do with the Dynaudios. What they have in their favor is in the reproduction of lower bass, which is fuller than with the little Dynaudios. Not surprising. The highs are okay, too, but not as extended as with the Dynaudios.

The imaging is actually better than I thought it would be. Nice placement and panorama. But again I would give the overall edge to the Dynaudios, which are much more focused.

I had lived with the DCM for more than 15 years, replacing them eventually with Tannoy Mercury M2s before stepping up to the Dynaudio Audience 42. I will at some point perform the same experiment with the Tannoys, but I am in o real hurry. The Dynaudio Audience 42 is a speaker I can live with for the rest of my days. I would love something better but am not prepared to spend excessively for an improvement.

Product Weakness: Adds thickness to both male and female vocalists. This ultimately detracts from the overall rating.
Product Strengths: Good imaging capabilities. Generally smooth overall frequency response.
