General Asylum: REVIEW: Monster Cable AV200 Power Conditioner/Surge Protector by TPBrown

My job requires alot of traveling so I have a Panasonic portable CD player with Grado SR-60 headphones to listen to music while I'm away. Now the power lines in a hotel have to be pretty bad, all those laptops, TV's cable boxes and who knows what else. One day I was trying to listen to my portable rig and the sound was so bad that it a waste of time, I could almost make out a radio station or something and the sound was bright with a huge amount of background noise. Ther had to be a cure for this situation so I went to a local midfi shop to look around.
I'm sure everyone knows about Monsters line of power conditioners and there has been a few reviews of them. So when I saw the AV200, this small two outlet plug right into the wall surge/power conditioner for $49.95 I was willing to give it a try. Well this was the best money I spent on that trip! The moment I put it into the outlet and pluged the portable rig in I knew this was the ticket. The noisefloor was considerbly lower and the bass definition and power was a whole lot better, details now were much more apparent and now I was getting sound from this modest little rig that I could live with! Headphone listening fatigue ( if there is such a thing )
was gone and the music now began to have some of qualities of my home system.
The Monster AV200 is really a no-brainer if you travel with a portable
music system, its light, small and will fit into briefcase and the price is right! I think monster desigined the AV200 with remote subwoofers in mind and when I get home I'll plug my Sunfire True Subwoofer into it and give it a try. Untill then I will be enjoying music a whole lot more when I'm away from home.
