Upgraded from separate Melos Preamp (Maestro) and amp (MAT-180) to the Karan KA-i180. It seems to be more tube sounding then the Melos. I listen to mainly old head style rock (Genesis, Gentle Giant, Pink Floyd), but I also enjoy some new rock like Rush's Show Me Don't Tell Me. The song has always been hard to listen too being to bright and in your face until now. The old Genesis does not seem any darker and the bright harsh songs are much more listenable. The detail and soundstage is just as good as the Melos, but the sound is smoother. IMHO

Product Weakness: Hard to get in the U.S.A. Had to buy based on other opinions.
Product Strengths: Warm, detailed, deep strong bass, smooth treble with no harsh hair raising brightness.
