When I saw the review on Positive Feedback for the VS-1 Mk.2 I was a little skeptical. The reviewer, who is Ed Morawski went over the top and bought the review sample and said that the DK VS-1 MK.2 was the best amplifier he had ever heard. I bought the amp factory direct because there was no dealer in my area on a 30 day home trial policy.
At the time I bought the amp, my system consisted of a Mark Levinson No. 334 amplifier, VTL TL 2.5 preamp, Musical Fidelity A5 CD player, all driving a pair of Wilson Audio Sophia's. I was looking to scale down the system a little bit and hoping that I can find a really killer integrated amp to do the job.
Right out of the box, the DK integrated amp nearly smoked the Levinson/VTL combo. Shockingly, the system did not loose control or musicality as was expected but actually certain imrpovements were heard such as a better and more holographic soundstage, quieter background, and amazingly tuneful and solid bass. Everything just sounded a notch better. Now this integrated amp only costs $3000!
Also, the build quality is amazing and the DK amp looks really stunning on my rack. I will be glad to email pictures of my system to anyone interested and audiophiles in the Atlanta area can stop by for a listen.
In short, this is a killer integrated amp that just keeps on giving me goosebumps everytime I sit down to listen.
