A number of people in print and online have commented on the great dynamics, sense of timing and tight bass Grado phones offer, making them an ideal headphone for rock/pop music. True enough, the bass is very clean and deep when used with my Headroom "Little More Power"; somehow, deep bass seems to have more "detail" then my regular Rega system, also I'd agree with reviewers who feel the Grados have a dark presentation (This, after a healthy 3 week break-in). Listening to vinyl at full blast with literally no airborne vibration is great fun. However, I'm flabberghasted as to why I seem to be the only one who thinks the SR-225s have wildly out of control siblants. Any sort of "s" sound is extremely hard and grainy. Rock/Pop music is the last thing I'd want to listen to with these cans.
With excellent recordings, the Grados are quite listenable; I feel the Grado/Headroom surpasses my regular system in terms of transparency and speed, but fails to capture the "message" of the musicians. There is a transistory feel to the music of which I believe the Headroom amp is partly to blame.
As far as comfort, an hour and a half is when I start to feel the irritation.
With the SR-225s, about 1/3 of my collection has been a revelation, a good 2/3 is unenjoyable and perhaps half of that unlistenable due to that damnable siblance.
