for the Dip 24/96

Used it with A324 and Sony 775 CD/SACD (and 508.24) player as a transport… The transport was only $200, and I thought that adding a Monarchy DIP in my system will be mostly positive..but it wasn’t.. I had same kind of feelings when I used the DIP with the meridian.

My comparison and impression below are from Sony 775…

When using Monarchy, I used a coax input on A324. Without the Monarchy DIP, I only used a Toslink from 775 CDP to A324 DAC..

Advantages of Monarchy dip in my system:

Slightly more stable “image” and “sound stage,” The sound is not drifting or coming in and out, and left to right…that kind of feeling… (This kind of effects is like the sound of Meridian 508.24 as a CDP)

It did decrease nasty “SS” sound.

Weakness:

1. This device shortens tonal depth. Without the DIP, everything is tonally more colorful if it’s not more accurate…
2. Without the Monarchy, I heard slightly more ambience and reverberation. My A324 is silkier without the DIP. Without the DIP, I did hear a bit more nuisance, which could be real music or digitalties. Do I like the extra nuisance or not without the DIP in my system? Yes, I like to hear that..
3. Without the Monarchy in my system, I sense freer dynamic swing and a more effervescent presentation, but I am not saying that the DIP softens dynamic completely.. With the Monarchy, everything is just a bit too well behaved. But, I do suspect that the hardest dynamic punches are soften a tiny bit….

I sold it after I have it for one week. It was broken it by the first owner.

I was a bit flabbergasted by what I heard. I certainly hope this device can perform better… After all, I only use it with a $200 CDP… YMMV and Happy listening..
