for the DIY Silver Interconnects
Hi,Purchased a roll of silver wire from Chris and was positively surprised about how fast it was delivered to Finland. I also bought some teflon tubing here, but on delivery observed that it was too stiff for my purposes (I have to bend the interconnect to get behind a bookshelf). So, instead of using teflon tubing, I just bought some ordinary PVC tubing (clear, colourless)with a slightly small outer diameter. Before winding the silver wire I wrapped the PVC tube with one layer of teflon tape (white, wraparound), which it easier to wind the silver wire on the tube surface. After winding the two wires, which was easy (tube stretched out with a guitar string), I wrapped two layers of teflon and attached the RCA connectors.
I was positively surprised. The IC:s designed by Chris are amazingly good. Mids are reproduced clearly, the base section is deep and steady. The only weakness I noticed was a slight excess of metallic brightness in the high notes with some pieces of music. But you can't get everything. I do not have any factory made "top" IC:s to compare with, except the Taralabs Master Gen II-IC:s I bought a few years ago. The VenHaus IC:s are better in my system, and here we are talking about appr. 20 euro DYI:s against the 400 euro (480 USD)Taralabs!
I seriously recommend anyone reading this comment to try the silver wire IC:s. They are not that difficult to make and the effort is in my opinion well worth the trouble.
Best regards,
kwokman
