Let me first state that I was a true cable skeptic and card-carrying member of CSICOP . So I normally don't give much credence to the claims by cable manufacturers that spooky-pseudo-science windings and bizarre and arcane materials have a measurable, demonstrable, and most important, AUDIABLE effect on the sound. After all, in the professional audio world, most recordings are mastered across medium-grade inexpensive microphone cables, so how do $18,000/pr speaker cables improve on that?Well, on the recommendation of a friend, I ordered a pair of T-14's to feed my new Martin Logan SL3 electrostatic speakers. I figured I needed new cables anyway since I wanted banana plugs, and the cables I had weren't long enough. It also seemed to be reasonably priced below my "BS threshold" for cabling. And it came with a 30-day MBG.
So, I ran some one-way-blind testing with my existing (12-ga flexicord) speaker cables. To my surprise, there was a readily identifiable difference! The signal sounded much less "muffled" and "muted" with the Silver Sonics. A few of my non-audiophile friends and my wife all confirmed this finding. We're not talking about a huge, immediate difference here, I still don't believe cables alone can provide that. But it was a marked improvement, albeit subtle, and contributed to an improved soundstage and imaging (if you've ever heard the SL-3, you'll know that the imaging is already spectacular).
What more can I say? I found a measurable difference for the first time ever, so I kept them, and I'm very happy with them.
