I was all set to get the Adcom GCD-700 or a Sony Es cd player. Who knows, maybe even external processing. I went to Deetes sound room in Sacramento for a demo. This Jolida 550 captured so much information, it made SS cd players I could afford sound like a walkman. In fact, many customers had traded in upwards of $4,000 in transports, external DAC, processors and so on because they liked the 550 better! This cd just stomps the guts out of the Adcom and Sony. More musical and more for the money by a long shot.
I would have bought this on the 30th of October except Jolida has a NEW model due out in two weeks for the same price range. I guess this is in response for it's only real competition in the price range the AH! Tjoeb [which I have not heard]. This is also a new world order in Cd players. This is one of the best players you can buy anywhere near the price. I remember the CAL tempest being touted years ago. This will probably hold it's own for much less money. Highly recommended over any sub $2,000 SS cd player. It is WARM and musical and worth it's weight in gold.
