Recently, I purchased a pair of CAT SL1s LE (limited Edition) on the used market, predominately on suggestion by others, along with a money back satisfaction guarantee. These amplifiers, powering Avalon Eidelons are of a rare breed. Rated at 100 watts per channel, the 6550 output tube- driven mono-blocks exude a sweetness only outweighed by it's sense of power. From top to bottom these amps deliver, what none other in my past or present systems has been able to. The fluidity, delineation, depth of sound stage, tonal accuracy, taut bottom end, and the most remarkable ability to suck me into the performance are all characteristic when adjoined with my room and accompanying components. In past systems comprised of (with Avalons or Genesis 200s) Jadis 200 amps, Classe 301 Krell 300 CAST, none captured the richness and involvement of the CATs. Something about truth in presentation, allowing the instrument or voice to emanate outwards toward me, the listener, rather than maintain a pinpoint sound source. I believe this is where the magic makes itself most present. To experience a fullness of body without deminishing the definition. Like painting a picture in space. I have read many reviews in audio with similar wonderments achieved, but had never understood the hyperbole. With these associated components I have been fortunate to come that much closer to a personal performance. And unlike some systems I have much enjoyed, this combo plays all musics, of all types with little left to yearn for. The cost of these amps new and even used , is astronomical. I am merely fortunate to be in such a position.

An important factor to success with any component must be emphasized here. No audio product is capable of full expression when improperly matched or inadequtely tweaked. To extract the utmost of any designer's piece of equipment requires time, energy, usually money, and a desire to squeeze to the nth degree. With the Eidelons, Jadis JP 80 MC preamp, FIM power cords, this amp is superlative. I hope all audio enthusiasts have an opportunity to experience a system like this.
