Let me start by saying I absolutely LOVE this classic amp! I've had this amp since 1986 when I assembled my then 'dream system' (for someone right out of high school, believe me it WAS!). The 504 was the centerpiece, and it still runs great with no problems over the years. The 504, with hi-end speakers and electronics in the chain, sounds very 'American' in sound quality. It helps to administer a very wide and truly detailed soundstage, with very accurate timbral balance, and good power reserves. I am constantly impressed with how well acoustic music and voice sound with it. It is not too high current, but very ample with most speakers, even smaller Magnepans (at one time, the 504 was driving MG-I's with no problems). It even tends to a warmer, analog sound compared to many mass produced Japanese equipment. The build quality is 'tank-like', with very ample real internal cast aluminum heat sinks, a very nice touch. It does not heat up too much as well, even at loud volumes into 4 ohms. This was one of Onkyo's high points in design and execution, and it is a crying shame they don't produce stuff like this and the Grand Integra M-510 anymore. Truly, truly, great amps for the money!
