Good Day All:

I will not repeat what the other two reviews said, they were correct accourding to my experience. There are a few things I want to add. First, the reason that I got the DR-9 was that my Audio Research D240 was not driving my speakers very well. They are custom built speakers. There are, per side, a Lambda Acoustic 12" God of Thunder crossed over at 180 hrz (iron core inductor), an Audax 7" mid woofer going from 170 hrz to 3 khrz, and a morell from 3khz up. Even though the Audio Research had more wattage, the DR-9 had more juice. It took control of those speakers right away. The difference was imediatly noticable.

I got a second suprise. I am using a DR-6 preamp. When using my turntable, the system came alive. That "dark sound" was more nutral. It was as though the DR-6, DR-9 combo was built around the moving coil stage in the DR-6. I have tried many CD player in the system and nothing compares to vinyl. The closest I came was using the Soney 777SE SACD player. Even then it seemed a little thin. It was coming close to a saw off but I still preffered the vinyl. Even with the higher noise floor, there was depth to the music.
