for the Teres Wooden Clamp

This is a mini review comparing the Teres standard Delrin metal clamp and the new Teres wooden clamp. Owners of the Teres can upgrade to the wooden clamp by sending the old one (delrin) to Teres Audio for exchange to the new clamp for $145 according to the website. You can also buy the new clamp separately for $205 which includes shipping in the continental U.S.

In my case, I choose the latter. My reasoning for the choice is to find out what improvement (if any), or differences will a wooden clamp brings to my audio experience. I am very happy with my Teres 255 table. But if additional improvement can be added through the use of the wooden clamp, I am more than willing to try it of course.

For 5 weeks, I compared the two clamps for about an average of 1 to 2 hours a day with the following materials as my play list.

JAZZ

Coltrane…….Soultrane

Evans………Waltz for Debby

Miles……….KOB

Mingus…….Tijuana Moods (45rpm)

C. Byrd…….Birdland

ROCK

B. Idol………..Rebel Yell

Deep Purple…..Machine Head

Nirvana……….Unplugged in N.Y.

Pink Floyd…….DSOTM

Scorpions……..Love at First Sting

CLASSICAL

Bartok……..Music for Strings and Percussion

Moussorgsky……….Pictures at an Exhibition

Mantovani……….World of Mantovani

From the above lists, I set a pattern on how I will play an LP from each group during the listening session. I first choose one song from the album of the JAZZ group followed by one song from the ROCK group, and then one song/composition from the CLASSICAL group. And then the pattern repeats itself. I logged in the hours plus the albums and the song/composition I choose from them after each session as accurately as I can.

I may not have a very accurate sense of hearing. All I know is that when it is very good to me, on how the tracks being played in my system sounds, it is very good to me! That’s it! No measurement and no audio jargon to wrestle with.

From the comparison, my conclusions are as follows:

1.) The delrin metal clamp is better when the source LP being played is in the Rock genre. It gives a more “lively” sound and the highs are more “rock” like.

2.) The wooden clamp is clearly superior in musicality when listening to jazz and classical music.

That’s it! Like I mentioned earlier, I am not going to use any audio bruhaha in describing the results of the comparison I made. From my experience, there is a difference on how the two clamps presents the music being played. In my system, the results above are what I obtained.

PS. I am not in anyway affiliated to Teres Audio. I am just a loyal customer, that’s all.

Thank you very much.
