Hi guys. It might seem a bit strange to post a review of a chair at this site, but I've found the Herman Miller Aeron chair to be a wonderful addition to my listening room. Frankly, I realized one day that my equipment stand was a hell of a lot nicer than the chair that I was sitting on -- it just didn't seem fair somehow!

My primary goal was to find a chair that was comfortable enough for extended listening sessions, but not so comfortable as to allow me to drift off to sleep (fans of Tangerine Dream and Plasikman take note). The Aeron chair is perfect in this regard. I guess you could say that it is extremely "alert comfortable", but not at all "sleepy comfortable".

Apparently, this chair was designed and developed in consultation with a team of orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, and ergonomists. The result is a technologically advanced "sitting machine" that is remarkably comfortable, highly adjustable, very well built, and pretty damn cool looking.

In addition to long-term comfort, the Aeron chair is ideal for music-listening for a number of reasons:

1) It is really solidly constructed, so doesn't emit any creaking, groaning, or popping noises as you shift your weight. No parts buzz or rattle during loud bass passages.

2) There is nothing behind your head to absorb sound. I guess this is probably particularly important for home theater.

3) The mesh seat and back don't trap heat or sweat (an important consideration for fans of tubes or class A amps).

4) The height is adjustable, allowing you to optimize listening height.

5) It has casters so you can simply roll it to the "sweet spot".

6) Once again, the design is not conducive to attacks of narcolepsy during listening sessions. I think this is an extremely important point. Also, it helps to ensure that you maintain a proper listening posture -- no lying down and putting your feet up on the arm of the sofa.

7) It looks as high tech as your audio rig. Makes it clear to non-audiophile friends that you are SERIOUS about your music. Playing music is NOT just an excuse to drink beer and snooze!

Well, that pretty much sums it up. If you are looking for that "final tweak", you might find the Herman Miller Aeron chair to be just the ticket.

Good listening,

Dave
