for the Rega Subplatter Mod

After all my previous mods on my former Rega, Vinyl platter, new plinth and seperate motor the last weakness was the plastic subplatter. I found out about the deepgroove subplatter on ebay of which I purchased hoping for some slight improvements. The first thing the mechanically inclined will notice about this subplatter is its physical solidity. Because of it being completely manufactured of metal it will remain as solid as your bearing housing is attached to your plinth. The biggest weakness with the stock plastic subplatter is the fact it is quite flexible, press down gently on the edge of the platter and you will see that it will bend ever so slightly, but too much to quality as being a stable platform for vinyl playback..With this mod, you will lift the platter off of one side rather than flexing the subplatter .This mod came with the ruby bearing and long strand molecule oil. The first thing I noticed after installing with the included instructions and tools was bass solidity, whereas before bass went low before but was a tad mushy, the rega mod seemed to clear things up down below.. Secondly, I felt that the overall performance became more refined, better transparency and each instrument gained a little extra focus..The noise floor had to be the most dramatic difference, it is lowered quite substantially in comparison with the stock version which on clean records is very silent, aside from the regular variable per pressing record noises..

I noticed reading another posters comment on this upgrade saying that he gained too much bass with this upgrade and went back to his plastic subplatter. On first impression, yes there is more bass until you realize that the mechanical superiority of this subplatter is providing a much more stable platform for your stylus to dig deeper into the bass information and give a much more solid presentation..After all, in tonearms bass is affected the most through sloppy bearings or bad design..

Product Weakness: Wait time could be very slightly lengthy, but less than 1 month..
Product Strengths: Worth its $179 price tag.
Beneficial upgrade for Rega Owners..
